Town and Parish Council Elections

There are 51 Parish and Town councils in Broadland, there are also 12 parish meetings that do not have elected parish councillors. In South Norfolk there are 100 Parish and Town councils and 13 parish meetings that do not have elected parish councillors.

Parish and town councillors are elected every four years. The most recent elections were held on 4 May 2023, you can view the results by visiting our previous elections results page. A By-election may be held to fill a vacancy for a parish/town councillor, you can find out more about this by visiting our casual vacancies page.

District Council Elections

Broadland District Council is made up of 47 District Councillors representing 27 wards and South Norfolk Council is made up of 46 District Councillors representing 26 wards.

District elections are held every four years. The most recent ones took place on 4 May 2023, you can view the results on our previous elections results page. In between scheduled elections, there may be a by-election to cover any individual vacancies that occur.

County Council Elections

Norfolk County Council elects 84 County Councillors across 84 electoral divisions across Norfolk. The Broadland District Council area covers 13 electoral divisions and the South Norfolk Council area covers 12 electoral divisions.

The most recent County Council elections were held on 6 May 2021, the results of which can be viewed on our results page. The next scheduled County elections are due to take place on 1 May 2025. In between full eletions, there may be a by-election to cover any individual vacancies that occur.

Police and Crime Commissioner Elections

Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) elections are normally held every 4 years. The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is accountable for how crime is tackled in their police force area. The first PCC election was held in May 2016, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic the 2020 election was postponed for 12 months and took place on 6 May 2021, the results of which are available on our results page. The next scheduled PCC eletions are due to take place on 2 May 2024.

UK Parliament 

A general election is an opportunity for people in every part of the UK to choose their MP. This person will represent a local area (constituency) in the House of Commons for up to five years. Parliamentary elections are held within five years of the last general election.

The date of the last general election was 12 December 2019. View the results on our results page. 

The UK is currently divided into 650 areas called parliamentary constituencies, each of which is represented by one MP in the House of Commons. Parliamentary constituencies are made up of a number of electoral wards from district councils so parliamentary boundaries may cross over one or more district council boundaries.

 Referendums

At a referendum everyone of voting age is asked to vote on a particular proposal.

The UK held a national referendum on 23 June 2016 on whether or not to remain a member of the European Union. View EU referendum results for all UK regions.

Neighbourhood Plan referendums are held by town and parish councils to ask their parishioners if they wish the council to use the Neighbourhood Plan to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area.
