South Norfolk Council Operators

You will need a private hire operator's licence if you accept or invite bookings for private hire vehicles.

A licensed private hire driver can't accept any bookings unless they hold, or work for, a licensed private hire operator.

Before you apply

You will need to have an operating base within the district where you apply.   If you are unsure please check which district the property falls within before applying.  Bookings must be taken at this address and records of these bookings must be made available to an authorised officer on request.

In the case of applicants who do not hold a South Norfolk driver licence or who are not in the process of applying for one, a current basic disclosure (dated within a month)  must be produced.  If you are applying on behalf of a limited company you will need to produce a basic disclosure for any company director/s and secretary.

Where an individual applicant has resided outside of the UK since the age of 18 for a period of three months or more, or who has not been a resident in the UK for the last five years, a certificate of good conduct will be required from the appropriate overseas embassy/ies and may be acceptable in place of a basic disclosure.

For applicants that are renewing a private hire operators licence, have held a licence that expired in the last year or currently hold a licence with a different authority, a tax check code will need to be provided.

You will need to check with our planning department that the premises can be used as an operating base.
