Electricity

National Grid owns and manages the high voltage electricity network in England and Wales connecting homes and businesses to the energy they need.

National Grid considers there is a need for increased capacity to the existing electricity transmission networks across the Eastern Region in order to cope with the additional new energy generation from offshore windfarms, nuclear power and interconnection with other countries and particularly the significant amount of energy generation above current capacity connecting into Norwich Main and Necton.

The Government has set a commitment to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and an ambition to connect 50 GW of offshore wind by 2030.
