South Norfolk review of polling districts and places
Every council is required to undertake and complete a review of all polling districts and polling places within its administrative boundary at least once every five years. The last review in South Norfolk was completed in July 2019.
These are geographical areas created by dividing an electoral area into. All wards within South Norfolk are divided into polling districts, and a register of electors for each of these districts is produced. Most polling districts are defined by parish (village or town) boundaries but there are exceptions. Unless there are special circumstances, each parish must be in a separate polling district.
These are designated areas for a polling district in which a polling station is located.
These are the actual buildings where the process of voting takes place, eg a room in a community centre or school.
The aim of the review
the review ensures that:
- electors in the constituency have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances
- as far as is reasonable and practicable, the polling places they are responsible for are accessible to all electors, and when considering the designation of a polling place, must have regard to the accessibility needs of disabled persons
