Veolia Sustainability Fund

Veolia Sustainability fund

Veolia is Broadland District Council's recycling, waste and street cleansing partner. Working with Broadland District Council, Veolia launched its Sustainability Fund in August 2022, which supports inspirational ideas and projects that aim to make a positive change in their local communities.

Applications are now closed for 2023. Keep an eye on our website for details of Veolia's Sustainability Fund in 2024.

The fund can support not-for-profit organisations, community groups or individuals that help transform their local community through enhancing biodiversity, promoting sustainable waste behaviours, protecting or preserving resources and the environment, or using recycled, reused or reclaimed materials.

In 2022 Veolia’s Sustainability Fund received over 150 applications from up and down the country, of which 96 projects were successfully awarded funding. Examples of previous projects include:

  • Scrapbox is a charity in Reepham which reclaims waste materials from local businesses, commerce and individuals which would otherwise end up in landfill. These are re-purposed as resources for art and crafting activities within the local community. Thanks to the funding, they have made their warehouse more energy efficient and replaced old signage.
  • The Papillon project is an educational charity that promotes sustainable living and environmental awareness for young people, through secondary schools and sixth-form colleges in Norfolk. In 2023 they will be teaching students how to grow their own food and with the support of the Sustainability Fund they have sourced new gardening tools to get digging!
  • Brundall Community River Watch, led by the Brundall Men’s Shed in Broadland, will see that the River Yare is kept clean through regular litter picks to save the river from pollution and contribute to their local community. The funding has been used to purchase new tools for the Men’s shed and litter picking equipment.

Applying for the Sustainaibility Fund

The Sustainability Fund will provide cash sponsorship, in-kind resources or staff volunteers to support not-for-profit organisations and community groups to transform their local community or environment.

A successful project will provide evidence of one or more of the following:

  • enhancing biodiversity
  • promoting sustainable waste behaviours (reduce, reuse and/or recycle)
  • protecting or preserving resources and the environment
  • Its use of recycled, reused or reclaimed materials

Veolia’s team looks favourably on projects that have considered the long-term or ongoing benefits for the community and will consider all projects based on merit.

Larger projects that require more funding are sometimes considered.

Shortlisted applications will then be considered for funding by representatives from Veolia and from Broadland District Council.
